Reigning 2021 Supercars Champion Shane van Gisbergen and GT World Challenge rookie Prince Jefri Ibrahim renew a successful partnership and the stunning blue 888 car paced the field early in practice. The drama-filled 60-minute race started fast before a Safety Car was called upon on Lap 6 but Ibrahim had risen from 12th on the grid to 9th in the #888 car. Making a bold outside move on Lap 10, Ibrahim moved up a spot before most of the front-runners pitted on Lap 12. With van Gisbergen behind the wheel and chasing down a pair of Audis, the Grove Porsche and a Nismo Nissan but was able to work his way into third on Lap 21. Unable to catch the front Audi pair, van Gisbergen battled with fellow V8 driver, David Reynolds who closed in on Lap 28 and was nose-to-tail coming into the final lap. The #888 car was able to hold of the Grove Porsche for a maiden podium finish to start the GT World Challenge.
